Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: What's the longest break you've taken from having your head up your ass?

Well, ma'am, you'll excuse me if I don't bend over meekly while you paddle my behind. I'm hardly going to bother addressing your broad-brush caricature of what 24 year olds ARE and DO - they're likely to have as wide a range of attitudes and opinions as any other age. In any event I don't really care how old deniro is. I don't give a damn if from time to time the old farts act like teenagers and the youngsters come on like elder statesmen if what they say is interesting.

I'm not taking any responsibility at all for any decision you might make on whether or not to participate here. You're a grown up - no one forces you to read and respond to things that irk you, and no one stops you either. Talk about whatever you want to talk about - but let's try not to get too precious and sanctimonious about it. It's an internet forum, open to all - you put up your words and you take your chances on the responses you get. As I said to you a couple of years ago I am an equal opportunities asshole and will happily be horrible to anyone, irrespective of age, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or questionable taste in 80s music. The trigger is not who or what you are, but what you say.

This place doesn't belong to anyone - there's no blueprint for the ideal Grateful Dead forum poster and I'm definitely not going to be changing to fit into anyone's notion of what that ideal should be.

Where did the option of having your behind paddled come from all of a sudden ?

Move on, Mr Hughes. It's all over - nothing to see here.

So why are you still here then ?

Must be a slow day at the word-manglers and sentence adjusters sweat-shop today ;0)

I don't have an idea how an "ideal" poster here should be. But I can recognize people acting like pure assholes when I see it. It isn't your forum. You might just consider that if you really want to act like an asshole pretty much most of the time when you post, well, some people are going to end up thinking you're an asshole. I know - you don't care. I got that.

Like I said - it isn't anyone's forum. And anyone can think what they like - I pretty much said that too. The fact that you think I'm an asshole doesn't negate a single word I say.

Why can't you just chill a bit, and enjoy chatting? Seriously - it's the rage. The rage, in the middle of every second or third thread. I know you have lots of friends here and I'd like to count myself among them, but you make it tough. Sorry. I enjoy your wit and your "wordsmithing" also, but I cringe waiting for you to unleash your fury at the slightest annoyance. It's abusive.

I am, I do, and there isn't any. I'm actually pretty dispassionate about the goings on here but I do enjoy a bit of verbal back and forth. Whatever you might think sometimes I have no desire to chase you away - but I'm not going to change either.

I am more into "verbal back and forth" than you probably realize from my posting here ... I can be highly argumentative. I don't think what you do is just verbal back and forth. It's seriously angry.

Your perception to the contrary I'm seriously not angry. Internet forum posts are fairly far down the list of things that upset me. I'm perfectly able to be argumentative and direct without getting wound up about it.

Great. Remind me not to ever get you _really_ angry then.

Maybe it is cultural differences. An Australian friend tried to explain to me once how Australian men insult each other in ways that to Americans sound truly awful and we'd think the men really hated each other when in fact they are dear old friends. Maybe what sounds like rage to me is perfectly normal everyday conversation to you. I don't know. On the other hand, don't forget Americans carry guns :)

Could be cultural, social, gender even. Some people you have to get comfortable with before you start throwing insults - others seem fair game from the get go. We Scots are forever hurling mortal insults at each.other. A lots in the tone and perception - I'll have to work harder at my tone so as not to upset your perception. We don't want bullets flying!
